What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a prosthesis that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, or facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor

Treatment Timeline

Consultation

During this time your Dentist will advise the best treatment option for you as well as answer any questions you may have.

Extraction

The tooth that needs to come out will then be extracted (if it hasn’t already)

CBCT Scan

A scan is taken to help with your treatment planning

Suture removal

2 weeks later we remove the sutures. Then we leave the area for around 3 months to allow the implant to heal into the bone.

Implant FAQ

1. How long does it take to complete treatment?

The total length of the implant treatment normally takes 6-9 months from start to finish.

2. Will I qualify for an implant?

To determine whether a patient qualifies to have an implant placed, a CBCT scan (3D scan) is taken to measure bone depth to see if it can hold an implant.

3. Why wouldn’t I qualify?

Smoking, severe gum disease and uncontrolled diabetes are reasons why implant treatment would not be suitable for certainpatients. This will ensure your treatment is working.

4. What happens to the gap whilst I’m healing?

Dentures and bridges can be made to fill the gap during the healing period after the implant is placed.
